Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival 2017

Taking place on the 21st May 2017, offering a series of challenging but scenic trail races in the heart of mid-Wales.

Half marathon (13 mile) and 10k and trail courses start and finish in the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells and take in valleys, fields, woodland tracks and stunning forestry. The family-friendly 3k and toddler trail events offer something for all ages and abilities.

Race entry fees include a bespoke wooden commemorative medal, technical finishers t-shirt and free entry in the Royal Welsh Spring Festival – a celebration of rural life with entertainment, workshops, livestock, trade stand and a street food quarter – the perfect place to unwind after running the trails.

The event incorporates The Welsh Trail Running Championships and Welsh Inter-Regional Trail Running Championships.

Event Information
Come and try pentathlon
A come and try pentathlon will take place alongside the series of races at the Trail Running Festival, where participants of all ages can come and try a series of athletic activities. You will be able to try their hand at long jump, shot, step hurdles, speed bounce and sprint.
3km Family Fun Race Information
The 3km family fun race is perfect for those looking to embrace the fun and excitement of trail running. Each finisher will receive their very own fun run medal and sweet treat. Entry starts from £5 and includes entry into the rest of the Spring Festival.
Toddler Trail
For the youngest of competitors there is a toddler challenge incorporated into the Trail Running Festival, which is free for under 5s. Ideal for those wanting to try running on a short, flat route around the showground.
Half Marathon and 10km Trail Race Information
The half marathon and 10km trail races at this year’s Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival are open to the more accomplished runner. Each are one or two laps respectively on an undulating course which meanders in the valley, fields and woods surrounding the stunning Llanelwedd site.
The Course

The 10km and half marathon races start together with half marathon distance runners running a second lap. The course takes in the climb to Drws Yr Coed house then loops through woodland, fields and trail paths passing through numerous farms and smallholdings with stunning views of the Royal Welsh showground below.
